How To Choose Hard Wearing And Aesthetic Solid Hardwood Flooring
Solid hardwood flooring can provide the ideal solution for people looking for a durable flooring solution, and also for people who are looking to add value to their home before a possible sale. This solid flooring can be produced from many different types of wood, both those grown domestically and those imported from foreign countries. All you need to do at the start is to make the choice of which design will suit your home the best, and then you will be able to find a material to provide it.
One of the first considerations is the furniture you have, or more specifically the furniture you expect to have in the future. Many people fall into the trap of buying furniture, and then taking it home and realizing that it does not fit in with their existing floor. Often, these people the feel the need to resurface their floor so it fits in with the new furniture they have bought. You can avoid these problems by considering the whole of your room décor in one go.
Solid wood floors can fit in any with many different design schemes. Many floors are made from traditional oak, and this can be made to look quite different depending on which lacquer or finish is applied to it. Walnut, which often comes from Brazil, has a distinctive dark color, so there is only a limited number of designs and colors which will truly fit in with it. It is a very aesthetic wood if it is of the right quality, so it well worth using if it does fit in.
For a high quality wood which fits in with most dark furniture, you can always try maple. It is not the easiest of woods to work with if you intend to install it yourself, and it is difficult to saw into sections. It does have the great quality, however, of being extremely hard wearing, so if you have a young family and intend to live in the same property for a few years, it may well be the right choice for you.
There are also solid wood floors made from engineered wood, which has both advantages and disadvantages. Engineered wood is wood mixed with adhesives, so it has long life but also a built in danger from the chemical resins which are used in the manufacture of the wood. If you are looking to install heating under the floor, it will be better to choose a natural strong wood such as maple. Whichever solid hardwood floor you choose, it will still need to be properly maintained. Just because it is hard wearing doesn't mean that you don't need to look after it. Clean it carefully, and you can get years of good use from your solid hardwood flooring.
